Void of Course Moon
In the ancient times, most people didn't know the exact time or the date of their birth. Astrologers were forced to develop techniques enabling them to answer people's questions (Horary Astrology) or to establish which moment is the most suitable for a particular activity (Electional Astrology). This is why the key roles in such horoscopes are played by the fastest moving elements -- the most important one is undoubtedly the Moon. In the Electional and Horary Astrology, the Moon phases, the way the Moon passes through the signs or the aspects it creates with the planets are examined in a very detailed way. This knowledge is the source of information for the popular lunar calendars. In the 17th century a British astrologer called William Lily established a new term for a specific weakened position of the Moon. He named the phenomenon "Void of Course".
If the Moon is void of course, it doesn't create any big (main) aspect with any of the planets. This period lasts until the Moon leaves the sign it currently resides in. You may also find other names for this phenomenon, such as "the Moon in feral position"... The period of the Void-of-Course Moon may last from several minutes to several days. Concerning calculations, only the five basic aspects (conjunction, sextile, quadrature, trigon, opposition) and the 10 basic planets are taken into consideration. Lilith, Chiron, Moon Knots, asteroids and small planets are ignored.

Void of Course Moon in 2017:
The name of this phenomenon itself indicates that this period will be characterised by infertility - the enthusiasm for any new activities will not last long, or we may lose control. In Astrology, the Moon is the patron of all that happens to us and there is one basic rule: "no aspect, no events". This rule refers to the fact, that during this period we usually feel lost and also sort of separated from the rest of the world. We tend to contemplate while floating somewhere in vacuum. Our judgement is compromised, our decisions may be unrealistic, immature or exaggerated. We can imagine the Void-of-Course Moon as a small neglected child left on its own in an unknown place. Unattended (creating no aspects with other planets), the effects of the Moon are weak, unfocused and metaphorically lost. Without the help and guidance it becomes unable to work in a constructive way -- it can even become destructive and start creating complications. Therefore, the events taking place during this period may easily get out of control, their course is vague, it's difficult to predict what's going to happen next and they often end in disappointment.
If the Moon is void of course, you should avoid any important decisions which are supposed to bring a positive effect or success. It's best to avoid:
- operations, or other important medical interventions
- purchase or sale of expensive things (a car, real estates...)
- signing of contracts and agreements
- starting relationships
- weddings or engagements
- starting new projects/plans
- mending things
- moving to a different place
- important interviews
What should we do during this period? It's a time good for relaxation, taking rest, meditation and focusing on spirituality. One is tuned rather on the non-materialistic areas. It's good to be separated from the society for a while. It's also good to do something routine which doesn't require too much attention. It's recommended to do something during which we won't mind being ignored. For example, if we need to go somewhere where someone whom we don't like or with whom we are in a conflict lives. Another example may be filing a tax return or a similar documents which may be checked by an authority, but we'd like to avoid it.
